AROUND THE COUNTY

Projects, developments and other activity in cities in and around OC

SANTA ANA

Tailgate Printing Inc., a Gardena-based screen printer, is moving its headquarters to Fairview Street and Segerstrom Avenue. Renovations are under way at a 72,000-square-foot industrial building and should be done this month. Construction crews have cleared out the inside of the building and are set to install screen printing equipment. Renovations are expected to cost $1 million. Tailgate plans to use the facility to print designs onto fabrics for its clients, many of which make clothes inspired by surfing and skateboarding. Most of Tailgate’s business comes from clothing makers and companies that want emblems printed on promotional items.

A new housing development called Canopy Lane is planned for Fairview Street and South Coast Drive. The 4-acre site formerly was home to school district buildings. The project calls for 38 condominiums in a gated community. The floor plans range from two to four bedrooms and 1,800 to 2,200 square feet. Newport Beach-based William Lyon Homes Inc. is the developer. Construction costs haven’t been determined. The complex is set to open by early 2012.

A major street-widening is under way on Bristol Street, north of South Coast Plaza. The goal of the multiphase project is to widen the major thoroughfare that extends from Costa Mesa to Garden Grove. Plans call for an extra lane in each direction, a landscaped median, sound walls, drainage upgrades and improved lighting. The current phase, which covers the area from McFadden Avenue to Pine Street, is expected to cost $11 million. The next phase will run from Third Street to Civic Center Drive.

FULLERTON

Construction continues at California State University, Fullerton, where an eastside parking structure recently opened and a dormitory is set to open this summer. The six-story parking structure has 1,500 spaces and is the school’s fourth parking structure. Anaheim-based Bomel Construction Co. began building it in mid-2009. The structure cost $24 million. The architect was Irvine-based International Parking Design. The five-story dorm is set to have about 1,000 beds, administrative offices, conference and multipurpose rooms, laundry facilities, recreational rooms, and a dining and kitchen facility. Colorado’s PCL Construction Services is the contractor. The architect is Los Angeles-based Steinberg Architects.

NEWPORT BEACH

Construction crews are gearing up to work on a retail center on Balboa Boulevard near 32nd Street, where a major facelift is under way. Denver-based Catellus Development Co. plans to build a retail hub called The Landing. Albertsons and Carl’s Jr. already have closed to make way for a Pavilions grocery store. Other new tenants include Gina’s Pizza, Chipotle Mexican Grill and The Crow Burger. The buildings are set to be partially demolished and rebuilt around their original frames. Irvine-based Camco Pacific Construction Co. is doing the construction, which is estimated at $2.5 million. The architect is Orange-based Architects Orange. The stores are slated to open in the first half of next year.

CYPRESS

A Jack in the Box is planned near Lincoln Avenue and Moody Street, where a renovation is in the works. The plan calls for a 2,600-square-foot restaurant with a drive-through lane. Construction began about a year ago and is slated to end this month. The site previously was home to another burger eatery. Construction costs weren’t disclosed. The contractor is Roseville-based RC Pacific Construction.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY

medical clinic is near completion at Euclid Street and Talbert Avenue. Construction has been under way for about 18 months. The 3,200-square-foot complex is designed for a single tenant and is expected to open at the end of this year. Phil’s Construction Inc. in Riverside is the contractor. Construction costs weren’t disclosed.
