$27M Naming Gift for CHOC Tower

A retired entrepreneur who made a fortune manufacturing spas gave $27 million to Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Orange, where his name will be attached to the $560 million South Tower that’s under construction and expected to open in coming months.

Bill Holmes founded Anaheim-based L.A. Spas in 1980 and sold it in 2004.

His gift is the largest by a living donor in CHOC’s history, according to hospital executives.

The 425,000-square-foot Bill Holmes Tower will be the first building at CHOC named on the basis of a single donation.

Holmes had earlier pledged $200,000 to CHOC, which will see a private patient room on the oncology floor of the new patient care tower also named for him.

The 84-year-old said he has no personal experience with CHOC’s services through his children or grandchildren.
