United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County raised $135,400 at its 19th Life Without Limits Golf Tournament on Oct. 21 at the Santa Ana Country Club. More than 120 golfers and supporters turned out for the tournament. Proceeds will provide support services to nearly 4,000 children and families affected by cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
St. Joseph Hospital’s annual fundraising gala was held Oct. 19. Celebration 2013 made hospital history by raising more than $420,000 for its new Emergency Care Center. More than 400 people gathered at the Balboa Bay Resort to enjoy an evening of fine dining, silent and live auctions and a musical performance by Brian Wilson, cofounder of The Beach Boys. Proceeds from the event will support a $3.5 million effort for the center called Preparing for the Future, which is part of the hospital’s $100 million comprehensive campaign, “Investing in a Healthy Tomorrow.” Celebration 2013 also marked the annual presentation of the Spirit of St. Joseph Award, which honors donors who embody the spirit of St. Joseph in their generous works. This year, the award was presented to Lee & Associates Commercial Real Estate Services Principal Jim Hawkins and his wife, Betsy.
“Create Your Own Future” was the theme of the eighth annual Project Access Keys to Success Gala on Sept. 21. The sold-out event, held at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in Costa Mesa, raised more than $260,000 to support the nonprofit’s 49 resource centers in affordable housing communities in California and Colorado. This year, Project Access presented its Keys to Success Award to Lindsey Ueberroth, philanthropist and president of Preferred Hotel Group, for her continued support of affordable housing.
Edwards Lifesciences employees concluded their annual October United Way giving campaign with record results—1,100 of them contributed more than $460,000 to help the organization reach its goals of improving education, helping people reach financial stability, and encouraging healthy living. The amount raised included a matching gift from The Edwards Lifesciences Fund—$1 for $1 up to $1,000 per employee. One of the highlights of the campaign was the Edwards Lifesciences Executive Leadership Team’s challenge to employees to four games of co-ed sand volleyball to encourage participation in the campaign.
