Major League Baseball and the charitable arm of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim gave $100,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. The money is set to expand the number of children the group serves with mentoring. The donation is part of the MLB Going Beyond program and July’s All-Star Game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Pipeline for a Cure event in Huntington Beach raised more than $450,000. Money was generated by silent and live auctions, sponsorships and donations and will go toward research into a cure for the disease. Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.
HomeAid Orange County’s annual Project Playhouse open house weekend recently raised more than $10,000 to support the group’s efforts to build and maintain housing for homeless families. Seven custom-made playhouses are on display in Irvine through Sept. 5.
The charitable arm of Tustin-based Sunwest Bank gave $100,000 to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation of Santa Ana. Orangewood works with children in foster care, providing activities, scholarships, support and other programs.
Irvine’s Moss Adams LLP donated $10,000 to the 2010 Donate Life Run/Walk at California State University Fullerton. The firm also raised more than $2,250 through registration fees, office fundraisers and employee donations. Donate Life helps educate people about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Lake Forest-based Oakley Inc. gave $5 million to Livestrong, which supports people living with cancer and was founded by champion cyclist Lance Armstrong. The money was raised through sales of Oakley’s Livestrong sunglasses, a portion of which was donated to the group.
