The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society OC/Inland Empire Chapter’s 11th annual Light the Night Walk fundraiser at Angel Stadium of Anaheim drew 6,500 walkers and raised $555,000.
Kaiser Permanente OC donated $372,000
to 19 nonprofits, including: Anaheim Community Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim, Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, Capistrano-Laguna Beach ROP, El Viento Foundation, Healthy Smiles for Kids, Irvine Public Schools Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Laguna Beach Community Clinic, OC Rescue Mission and Pretend City.
Goodwill of Orange County’s annual Goodwill Invitational at Arroyo Trabuco Gold Club raised $95,000, including $20,000 from CVS Caremark Charitable Trust. The grant will go toward Goodwill’s Assistive Technol-ogy Exchange Center, which helps children and adults with disabilities.
Rancho Santiago Community College District was awarded two grants worth $611,151. A two-year, $400,000 economic stimulus grant through the California Colle-ges Chancellor’s Office is set to expand
Santa Ana College’s pharmacy technology program. Santiago Canyon College’s Amer-iCorps program will receive a federal grant of $211,151 through California Volunteers, the state office that manages volunteer initiatives.
Providence Speech and Hearing Center was awarded a $60,000 grant from the St. Joseph Health System Foundation to support its Hear for All program that benefits poor patients of all ages by providing hearing screenings, diagnostic testing and hearing aids.
Discovery Science Center’s Future Scientists and Engineers of America after-school program received a $50,000 grant from the Motorola Foundation. The program serves 2,000 students in grades four through 12 across the nation.
The sixth Annual Aliso Viejo Community Cup at Aliso Viejo Country Club raised $48,000 for the Aliso Viejo Boys & Girls Club.
The Child Abuse Prevention Center’s eight Charity Golf Classic at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel raised $40,000 for the center’s child abuse prevention, parenting education and mental health programs.
The Wells Fargo Foundation gave $33,000 to Volunteer Center Orange County for its training services program. The program provides training for nonprofits in the county.
Moms OC received $30,000 from George Hoag Family Foundation to support its programs and services. The grant will go toward services that provide access to prenatal care, health screenings, health education and referral services to 5,000 mothers and babies each year.
California Self Storage Association raised $30,000 for the Kure It! Kidney Cancer Research Fund, a not-for-profit affiliate of City of Hope National Medical Center.
Buena Park-based Yamaha Corporation of America and Yamaha Cares donated musical instruments valued at $21,000 to the Community School of the Arts in Charlotte, N.C.
Irvine-based Trus Joist Commercial En-gineered Wood Products gave $10,000 to the Ace Mentor Program. The grant was awarded for students in architecture, construction and engineering programs with an emphasis on green design, conservation of natural resources and environmental issues.
New York Life Insurance Co. donated $10,000 to Girls Inc., a nonprofit for girls ages four to 18 that seeks to provide training on self-esteem, financial literacy, arts, science, math and other skills.
The Wells Fargo Foundation gave $7,500 to HomeAid OC’s 18th annual Project Playhouse. Proceeds benefit the group’s efforts to build housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives.
North County Vons and Pavilions employees helped clean up Bolsa Chica State Beach with Save Our Beach to raise money for prostate cancer research. Employees raised more than $3,300.
The city of San Juan Capistrano and others raised $2,700 for the 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment of adopted Marines deployed overseas. The city hosted a car wash at Ladera Ranch’s Chapparral Elementary School. Jerry’s Dogs of Ladera Ranch donated a portion of its sales. Proceeds will help fund programs and events for Marines and their families.
