Lady Ducks Fashion Show Raises $120K

Fashion show finery: modeled by Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin and CHOC ambassador Adela Jauregui

The annual Lady Ducks Fashion Show Luncheon raised $120,000 for the Anaheim Ducks Foundation.

Several of the hockey players served as models, including Lubomir Visnovsky, Jonas Hiller, Francois Beauchemin, Teemu Selanne and others. The players walked the runway, along with a Children’s Hospital of Orange County “ambassador”—a current or former patient or a family member.

Money raised through the Anaheim Ducks Foundation benefits the new fitness center at Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s new tower set to open next year.

Irvine-based Freedom Communications Inc.’s OCRegister.com was the presenting sponsor of the fundraiser, held at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa.

The co-hosts for the event were Kent French, a Ducks broadcaster, as well as KTLA-TV meteorologist Henry DiCarlo.

Saks Fifth Avenue at South Coast Plaza and Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. provided the fashions.

$120,000 for Music Ed.

Buchanan Street Partners raised $120,000 at its recent Encore for Education fundraiser.

Buchanan Street Partners is a Newport Beach-based real estate management company, a subsidiary of L.A.-based TCW Group Inc.

The third annual fundraiser, which featured live performances by Blues Traveler and the Gin Blossoms, was held at the Observatory in Santa Ana. More than 800 people attended.

The money raised at the event benefits New York-based VH1 Save The Music Foundation, which helps fund music programs in schools; The John Parker Memorial Fund at the UCI Foundation, which supports real estate education at University of California, Irvine; and Buchanan Children’s Charities.

Irvine-based Bascom Group LLC was the producing sponsor of the event.

Other sponsors included Irvine-based Seyfarth Shaw LLP, DLA Piper LLP’s Los Angeles office, Aliso Viejo-based CT Realty Investors and Costa Mesa-based Idea Hall.

Literacy Donation

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim donated $25,000 to the Corona del Mar-based Literacy Project Foundation.

Burbank-based Walt Disney Co.’s Disneyland Resort includes Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure and the Downtown Disney District shopping center.

The donation will help fund one of the organization’s literacy programs, Get Set Read!, which aims to boost reading levels among elementary school children in Anaheim.

The 10-week literacy program is used by the Anaheim school district and by after school programs, such as Anaheim Family YMCA. Disneyland Resort’s donation will fund 270 students during the 2011-12 school year.

Disney Publishing Worldwide also donated 1,000 Disney books to Get Set Read!

Alzheimer’s Donation

Wells Fargo Foundation, the corporate giving arm of San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co., has donated $5,000 to the Alzheimer’s Family Services Center to support its dementia health services.

The Huntington Beach-based center helps families care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It also has an adult daycare center in Orange County.

Churm Family Honor

Steve Churm, chief executive of Newport Beach-based Churm Media, and the Churm family will be honored with the 2012 Dove Award at Irvine-based Human Options’ annual Serious Fun fundraiser May 11 at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.

The Havana Nights-themed fundraiser will include a silent auction, cocktail hour, dinner, live auction, live music and an awards program.

Human Options helps prevent domestic violence through programs such as the 100 Men Campaign. It also provides an emergency shelter and other service for victims of domestic violence and their children.

The Churm family has long supported Human Options. Churm’s late mother, Carolyn Churm, was one of the four cofounders of Human Options in 1981, along with Anne Wright, Margaret Thoreau and Vivian Clecak, the organization’s chief executive.

Churm serves on the Human Options board and is chairman of the Men’s Task Force. Churm’s daughters, Katie Danielson and Carli Churm, are members of Human Options’ young professional support group, yHope. Churm’s son, Logan Churm, is also active in the organization. Steve Churm’s late father, Peter Churm, also was a supporter.

Skateboarding Fundraiser

Skateboarders Ryan Scheckler, Lance Mountain and others will be on hand May 5 for Skate for a Cause.

The skate event raises money for the Alabama-based A.skate Foundation, which helps kids with autism. The event will be held at Etnies Skate Park in Lake Forest.

The Scheckler family’s San Clemente-based Scheckler Foundation is organizing the event. Sponsors of the event include San Clemente-based Chronic Taco Enterprises Inc., Sole Technology and Foothill Ranch-based Oakley Inc.
