Coleman Rejoins Business Journal as Reporter

Veteran business journalist Murray Coleman has rejoined the Orange County Business Journal covering finance, manufacturing, small business and economic issues.

Coleman replaced Dan Beighley, who left in December to focus on his investor Web site, The Growth Stock Report.

For the past two years, Coleman has covered U.S. and global financial markets from the Bay Area for Index Publications LLC, which is based in Spain. Previously, he worked at Dow Jones MarketWatch in San Francisco covering finance.

Earlier, he spent nearly seven years at Investor’s Business Daily. He covered technology and served as lead reporter for Hewlett-Packard Co. before joining the paper’s mutual funds and personal finance team in 2003.

In the late 1990s, Coleman was a reporter at the Orange County Business Journal covering real estate.

Coleman also has worked as a business reporter at the Pittsburgh Business Times, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and the Durham (N.C.) Herald-Sun.

A native of Salem, Ore., Coleman earned his bachelor’s in economics from Western Oregon University and served in the Army from 1988 to 1990.

He lives in Irvine. Coleman’s wife, Marilou, works in healthcare as a research scientist at Abbott Laboratories. Coleman enjoys watching the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and San Diego Chargers (despite their recent playoff loss). He and his wife have a Jack Russell Terrier, Sophie. Coleman can be reached at coleman@ocbj.com.
