Safran Cabin Relocates U.S. HQ to Costa Mesa

Safran Cabin, an international company that specializes in retrofitting and upgrading commercial aircraft interiors, told the Business Journal it will be vacating its U.S. headquarters in Huntington Beach and relocating to Costa Mesa.

The relocation will take effect on Sept. 2, according to Nathan Kwok, Safran Cabin’s executive vice president sales & marketing.

“The headquarters for Safran Cabin will be relocating to a new location this summer, as the lease contract for the current location in Huntington Beach expires,” Kwok told the Business Journal in an email.

He added the new headquarters location is relatively close to where Safran Cabin’s current location, therefore ensuring “an easy transition within Orange County for our teams.”

Safran Cabin manufactures and supplies interiors, such as galleys, lavatories and overhead bins, for commercial aircraft.

Kwok said Safran Cabin’s new address will be 1620 Sunflower Ave. in Costa Mesa. The aerospace company will lease 38,202 square feet at its new U.S. headquarters, according to CoStar data.

There are no other tenants at 1620 Sunflower Ave., also known as Sunflower Corporate Center, per CoStar. The 38,202-square-foot warehouse, owned by Tim Nguyen and his Fountain Valley-based SFHY Enterprises LLC, was built in 1986.

Safran Cabin will be vacating its space at 5701 Bolsa Ave., Huntington Beach, by the end of this month.

“The new facility in Costa Mesa will serve as both the headquarters for Safran Cabin and our premier Engineering Center dedicated to the development, design, and certification of cabin interior solutions in North America. We will be fully vacating the current space (in Huntington Beach),” Kwok said.

The international aerospace company employs more than 1,500 in Orange County, a 12% drop from a year ago, ranking it No. 5 on the Business Journal’s annual list of aerospace and defense companies (see page 15).

Safran Group

Safran Cabin is one of 11 subsidiaries under the Safran Group umbrella. Jorge Ortega is Safran Cabin’s CEO. The larger Safran Group was founded in 2005 and operates within the aviation, defense and space markets.

Safran Group’s specialties include aerospace, jet and helicopter engines, rockets, propulsion systems and safety-critical software.

The international aerospace giant reported on July 31 first-half revenue climbed 13% to 14.9 billion Euros, or a little more than $17 billion. Safran’s aircraft interiors unit almost tripled its operating income to 27 million Euros. Safran’s far more profitable units are propulsion, which was up 37% to 1.8 billion euros, and equipment & defense, up 7.5% to 703 million euros.

Pascal Bantegnie, Safran’s chief financial officer, said the company anticipates reaching 6.5 billion Euros ($7.5 billion) in annual operating income by 2028, but that target could be adjusted due to “some uncertainty regarding tariff or reduced domestic demand across the U.S.” Safran’s recurring operating income, as of the company’s earnings call last month, was 2.5 billion Euros ($2.9 billion).

Shares of Safran Group stock grew by about 50% over the past three months and now sports a 120 billion euro market cap (Paris: SAF.PA).

The other subsidiaries are Safran Aero Boosters, Safran Aerosystems, Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Electrical & Power, Safran Electronics & Defense, Safran Helicopter Engines, Safran Landing Systems, Safran Nacelles, Safran Seats and Safran Transmission Systems.
