WHY: Began career as a teller at Bank of America in 1988. From there, his career took him through the various areas of banking including operations, sales, credit and finance. Named CFO of South Bay Bank at age 29. Was founding CFO of Orange County Business Bank. Joined Infinity Bank as its founding COO & CFO in 2018. Bank raised $33M in capital, exceeding its target of $30M. It was the second bank to open in OC in about a year, and the ninth new one to open in the U.S. since the 2008 financial crisis. Board includes well-known local executives Glenn Stearns and Cary Bren. Now among largest banks with HQ in Orange County, reporting $337.1M in assets as of June 30.
IN THE NEWS: Publicly traded shares have risen by about 63% in the past year with a market cap of $47M. Small volume around 100 shares daily (OTCQB: INFT).
NOTABLE: Every Infinity customer has his personal cell phone. Entered a Bank of America as a kid after opening his first savings account. Saw everyone in a suit and knew he wanted a career in banking. “I want to work at a place where I get to dress up like that.” Earned his degree in finance from CSUF in his late 20s, going to school at night and weekends.
QUOTABLE: Says launching new banks has given him “empathy for entrepreneurs. They’re trying to survive, but they’re also trying to do 10 million other things, other than just turn a profit.”
