Anaheim-based Waev, makers of GEM electric cars, has sued the Treasury Department, challenging an IRS rule that bars low-speed vehicles from federal tax credits.
Waev filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., according to filings seen by the Business Journal. The company also petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the dispute.
“Safe, street-legal, right-sized low-speed electric vehicles should be incentivized as the important mode of modern mobility that they are, not excluded by an antiquated regulation,” Paul Vitrano, chief legal and policy officer of Waev, said in a statement today.
Waev’s other vehicles include Taylor-Dunn light transporters.
