The newly formed Providence St. Joseph Health said it’s launching a $100 million effort toward improving mental healthcare in communities it serves.
It plans to establish the Institute of Mental Health and Wellness to be coordinated out of its system office in Renton, Wash., but offered across its seven-state geography.
Providence St. Joseph Health is made up of Irvine-based St. Joseph Health along with Providence Health and Services, based in Renton.
State regulators recently approved an affiliation between the two healthcare systems, clearing the way for the two entities to combine as Providence St. Joseph Health, with 50 hospitals and various other clinics, physician groups, and other assets.
It will have a system office in Irvine to oversee Orange County, where St. Joseph Health operates St. Joseph Hospital-Orange; St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton; and Mission Hospital, with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach.
St. Joseph Health said that its new collaboration with Providence will not affect St. Joseph Hoag Health, the regional delivery network it created in 2012 with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, with campuses in Newport Beach and Irvine.
