Luxury home sales in the first three weeks of August continued the brisk pace set in June and July, with 14 transactions above $4 million closing in the first three weeks of the month.
August also boasted the fifth highest home sale of the year with the Aug. 10 close of the bluff-top home at 17 Lagunita Drive in Laguna Beach, which sold for $12.2 million.
The high-end home market in Orange County had garnered more than 75 home sales so far in June, July and August, with an average price of $5.3 million, as the Business Journal went to press, according to online real estate aggregator Redfin.
Pinnacle of Luxury
The art deco-styled home at 5 Sea Shell in Newport Coast sold on Aug. 19 for $9.9 million, under its March list price of $10.9 million.
The four-bedroom, seven-bath home, which encompasses 10,465 square feet, sits atop a 0.45-acre lot with 180-degree views that include Catalina Island, Palos Verdes, the low hills of Orange County and the Los Angeles skyline.
It boasts an entryway with water features inside and out. Other key amenities include a commercial-grade elevator, wine cellar, sauna, in-home gym outfitted with a massage room, and a subterranean 10-car garage.

Trophy Life
The five-bedroom, six-bath home at 2156 E. Oceanfront in Newport Beach is on what the selling agent calls “arguably the best ocean-front street in the Balboa Peninsula at the Wedge.”
The Santa Barbara-inspired home delivers unobstructed 180-degree beach, ocean and Catalina Island views. It changed owners on July 28, selling for $9.2 million, under its June list price of $10 million.
It sits on a 3,480-square-foot lot and offers two outdoor entertaining areas, a rooftop deck and an ocean-front patio.
Laura Roche of Villa Real Estate represent-ed the seller, and Shana Spitzer, also of Villa Real Estate, negotiated on behalf of the buyer.
Colonial Stunner
17 Ridgeline Drive in Newport Beach, which offers seven bedrooms and 11 baths, closed on July 12 for $7.4 million. The list price in March was $7.95 million.
The colonial-style estate in guard-gated Harbor Ridge sits on a 0.30-acre view lot with wide ocean vistas. Coffered ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and marble floors are found throughout.
The main level includes a library, family room, and a gourmet kitchen with Sub-Zero and Viking appliances. The second level features a formal living room with French doors to the terrace, an oversized formal dining room, and a catering kitchen.
The professionally landscaped backyard offers a children’s playhouse and a complete outdoor kitchen, as well as a one-bedroom, one-bath guest casita.
Natalie Raney of Villa Real Estate and Sue Lu of Century 21 Amber Realty represented the seller and buyer, respectively, in the sale of the 11,600-sqaure-foot mansion.
Understated Elegance
The contemporary-style home at 1009 Cliff Drive in Newport Beach sold on Aug. 4 for $7.2 million, meeting its June list price.
The 50,000-square-foot home, steps from the sand, blends contemporary and traditional elements. It has four bedrooms and four baths, a large gourmet kitchen, and both formal and casual dining areas, as well as other amenities, including a bonus room and a walk-in pantry in the gourmet kitchen.
The 7,144-sqaure-foot grounds are lush with tropical landscape.

The four-bedroom, five-bath home at 24 Gondoliers in Newport Coast sold on Aug. 17 for $6.95 million.
The 5,617-sqaure-foot Mediterranean-style home is nestled onto a 0.35-acre wedge-shaped lot that offers both privacy and unobstructed views of the ocean and Catalina Island.
It offers unique touches that include rare imported stone and custom millwork. Notable highlights include remote-controlled pocket doors, radiant heated floors at the enclosed loggia, a whole-house audio-visual system, and numerous decks, terraces and patios.
