Accelerate Change Together Anaheim is granting nearly $1 million this year to help organizations meet the rising needs of Anaheim youth impacted by poverty, academic challenges and limited opportunities.Â
Individual grant awards include $120,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, $120,000 to Girls Inc., $75,000 to Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim, $45,000 to the Children’s Bureau of Southern California and $30,000 to the OC Human Relations Council.Â
ACT Anaheim was formed in 2013 by the Disneyland Resort, Angels Baseball and the Anaheim Ducks, with Orange County Community Foundation serving as managing partner. It’s granted nearly $6 million to nonprofit organizations in Orange County.Â
Shout Out for Shootout
The seventh annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout benefiting CureDuchenne raised more than $546,000 to help find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A record-breaking crowd of more than 500 gathered at Time Nightclub on Sept. 8 to kick off the event, which was presented by ActivePDF.Â
The next day, sponsors, golf enthusiasts, athletes, and other guests took to the course at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point. Current and former Anaheim Ducks teammates, coaches and other celebrities joined in as fifth players in the sold-out tournament.
“Whether you are an athlete or a champion for Duchenne, your participation and dedication to finding a cure continues to make giant strides towards saving the lives of those affected by Duchenne,” said Ryan Getzlaf, event host and Anaheim Ducks captain.
Sponsors included Guaranty Chevrolet, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Air Control Systems, Ayres Hotels, FR Construction and Spinnaker Development.
Building Hope
On Sept. 16, Hope Builders hosted its annual Light Up a Life gala, benefiting unskilled and unemployed Orange County youth. Through intensive job training and life skills counseling, Hope Builders works to empower youth with the tools to transform their lives. Nearly 530 guests attended the gala, honoring Brookfield Residential and raising over $640,000 in net proceeds.
“Over the last two years, we have seen the value Hope Builders can be to those in need. We are excited to get behind an organization that can grow in future years,” said Brookfield Residential President and Chief Operating Officer Adrian Foley.
Brookfield has committed $100,000 to Hope Builders over the next five years to help move 1,000 youth into the workforce.
Rally to Change Lives
Orange County United Way and more than 200 business leaders rallied on Sept. 7 at City National Grove of Anaheim in support of their local efforts to make Orange County a better place to live and work, while recognizing the community’s top philanthropic companies and their employees.
United Way honored the Automobile Club of Southern California with the Dimensions in Giving award, recognizing the corporate partner making the most significant community impact through dollars raised, employee volunteer services and other key contributions.
Others honored included: UPS with the Leaders Society Award for having the greatest number of donors contributing $1,000 to $9,999 annually—130; Ernst & Young with the Tocqueville Society Award for having the biggest number of donors contributing $10,000 or more annually—21; Nationwide, Fluor and KPMG with the United4OC Award honoring corporate partners that embody a spirit of giving through contributions of time, leadership and resources; Edwards Lifesciences, Johnson & Johnson and Pacific Life Insurance Co. with the FACE2024 Award given to corporate partners that are among the strongest United Way supporters, offering their time, talents and resources, including representation on the organization’s board, campaign cabinet, affinity groups, volunteer projects and sponsorships.

On Sept. 20, House of Blues Anaheim and the Music Forward Foundation donated new instruments valued at more than $20,000 to the new music program at Samueli Academy. … The Los Angeles Chargers partnered with Komen Orange County for the annual Susan G. Komen Orange County’s Race for the Cure on Sept. 24, raising money through the creation of team Chargers for the Cure. … The James M. Cox Foundation and Cox Communications granted $15,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach to create the Cox Technology Center, which is intended to benefit future generations of technologists, graphic designers and engineers.
