Old Brea Chop House Taps New Channels

Old Brea Chop House is dishing up some interesting ways attracting customers.

The upscale steakhouse in downtown Brea held its first OBCH Marketplace Sept. 4-6, giving guests a chance to purchase meat, poultry and meal kits for cooking at home. The next market is slated for a Sept. 10-12 run.

That means filet mignon at $30 a pound, bone-in ribeye for $39, lobster starting at $23, $36 burger kits and other items.

Grocers selling high-end meats have been doing brisk business during the pandemic. Staff at The Butchery, with area locations in Brea, Newport Coast and Costa Mesa, tell the Business Journal it’s been a record year for their chain.

There’s room for more options in Brea, said Tony Fasulo, who opened the 5,500-square-foot Old Brea Chop House late last year.

“While dining rooms are closed, we’ve been trying to be as creative and innovative as possible with our offerings to keep things fresh and exciting for the Brea community,” Fasulo said.

The restaurant has also been using its courtyard for outdoor dining with live music on Friday and Saturday nights, while also offering takeout lunch and dinner specials.

The marketplace, Fasulo said, gives visitors something unique they won’t be able to find at the typical grocery store.

“Of course, our constant pivoting helps drive revenue during a time where we need it most, but just as important, it allows us to stay visible and nurture the relationships we’ve build with the community,” the restaurant owner said. “The support shown over these past six months has kept the faith alive and makes us confident that once we’re able to finally reopen, we’ll be seeing a lot of familiar faces in our restaurant again.”

The upcoming OBCH Marketplace hours are from 10 a.m. to noon.
