OC’s Collection of Car Collectors

The area’s well-to-do residents have a few things in common when it comes to how they choose to spend their money.

Shelling out millions for high-end cars is one common theme. Here’s a compilation of some of the area’s more prominent car collectors.

Mark Moshayedi
Co-Founder, Space Investment Partners

Longtime vintage car collector Mark Moshayedi has added a new pearl to his collection. The co-founder of Santa Ana-based computer storage device-maker STEC Inc., whose family has made several additions of our OC’s Wealthiest list in the past, recently shelled out a reported $3.5 million for a new McLaren Speedtail, one of only 106 of its kind planned for production. The Speedtail can achieve a top speed of up to 250 mph.

Hezy Shaked
Founder, Executive Chairman, Tilly’s

Hezy Shaked is a known hyper car enthusiast and brand ambassador for Bugatti among others.

His Bugatti collection includes the Divo, Chiron, Veyron Vitesse, but most notably his lineup boasts “the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, the only one of its kind in the world,” he says.

“The likeness of the vehicle is a vibrant blue and black livery that was built for the award winning video game Gran Turismo, the vehicle itself being the ‘endgame’ prize,” he told the Business Journal last week.

Shaked’s collection does not stop there, it also includes “one-of-a-kind vehicles from the most desired and elite manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Pagani to name a few.”

He said he’s still shopping for “the most remarkable cars still yet to be unveiled.”

Ted Segerstrom
Segerstrom Family

Ted and Rae Segerstrom own a collection of more than 80 classic cars that he refers to as the “Shelby Shrine,” with Ford Mustangs and high-performance Shelby and Shelby Cobra models making up the bulk of the collection, which also includes other rare and vintage muscle cars. Standouts of the collection include a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, a Shelby Series 1, a 1966 Shelby GT350 and a series of ultra-rare Shelby GT500KR convertibles. Reports indicate the couple recently converted a barn at their Costa Mesa home into an automobile showroom.

Mike Harrah
Founder, Caribou Industries

Santa Ana’s most prominent commercial real estate owner, “Big Mike” Harrah has a passion for historic cars and collects them as such. He’s owned the Batmobile and numerous other vehicles often shown at car meets, the Thor 24 mega-truck, not to mention an assortment of helicopters and Gulfstream jets. The real estate executive has also flown as a stunt pilot in several Hollywood films.
