Neel Grover’s outfit resembles a collage of complementary pieces—a double-breasted vest under a navy summer blazer, paired with camouflage jeans and white sneakers. He tops it off with a flower pin for a look he defines as “smart casual.”

“People in our industry will dress, for the most part, down,” said the CEO of Indi.com Inc., a Newport Beach-based content management software and marketing company. “I like to dress comfortably up … I’m trying to make an impression that I care about what I look like, but that I’m also not spending over the top, because that’s also how I am with clients’ business. We’re a platform that helps brands build business and we take very good care of your customers and your money. We’re very efficient with how we charge and so that’s the same way I want to be: smart and efficient in how I dress.”

White sneakers fit the bill, as long as they don’t double as the everyday gym attire,” said Grover, a nationally ranked tennis player.

“They have to be relatively nice,” he said. “They don’t have to be the most expensive; it’s not the brand. It’s more that they don’t look like you just came off of the tennis court,” Grover said.

Grover, who has more than 15 years of e-commerce expertise as the former CEO of Rakuten North America, Bluefly.com, and Buy.com, prefers to shop online, mainly from Nordstrom, Suitsupply and Ted Baker. It’s mostly about the convenience, said the time-strapped executive, but it’s also about avoiding overspending.

“Every time I go in a store I would buy a lot more.”
