Oakley Inc. has signed on as the official eyewear and goggle brand of the Big Bear Mountain Resort, which includes the Bear Mountain, Snow Summit and Snow Summit Bike Park venues.
The Foothill Ranch-based eyewear and apparel manufacturer, as part of the two-year sponsorship, plans to develop “co-branded content” featuring Oakley and athletes sponsored by the resort in San Bernardino County. Employees of the resort will wear Oakley gear, which also will be available at retail shops there.
“This partnership will be another way Oakley can showcase its product innovations and technologies against a year-round training destination that inspires performance,” according to a statement by Cuan Petersen, vice president of global sports marketing for the company, which is part of Milan, Italy-based Luxottica Spa.
Oakley recently introduced a line of snow helmets, as well as Green Fade “ultra-light sports frames” and PRIZM lenses for eyewear that filter light differently in various outdoor conditions.
It also launched Radar Pace eyewear, which is equipped with a voice-activated coaching system developed in collaboration with Intel Corp. in Santa Clara.
Mammoth Resorts, which also has a sponsorship deal with Oakley, acquired Big Bear Mountain Resort in 2014 for $38 million.
