Music Streamer in NB Makes Music With Distributor

Music video streaming service Edge Music Network wants to help users reach more fans and make more money.

The Newport Beach-based company partnered with digital distribution service MondoTunes, which helps independent artists and musicians distribute music on major channels, such as Spotify, Amazon and iTunes. It also introduced a tool that lets artists create their own webpages on Edge Music’s platform to upload content and interact with fans. Visitors on their pages can book the bands, watch live performances and chat with the artists.

Founder and Chief Executive Elizabeth Vargas said the launch of artist pages and its partnership with MondoTunes gives “artists a full 360 distribution model for mp4 as well as mp3 music videos.”

The company is backed by entertainment executives and musicians, such as TNA Entertainment Chief Strategy Officer Eric Sherman, Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

MondoTunes was founded by Mershad Javan and is owned in part by Beverly Hills billionaire Alkiviades “Alki” David, who founded streaming-media company FOTV Media Networks Inc. and entertainment company Hologram USA, known for resurrecting rapper Tupac Shakur for a 2012 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival performance.

Eye for Hawaii

Surf’s up for Newport Beach beauty and accessories line Pirette.

The company announced professional surfer Coco Ho as the new face and partner of the brand this month and recently kicked off the campaign with tacos and beer at Newport Beach restaurant Wild Taco.

A collection of beauty and fragrance products based on Ho’s beachy lifestyle is about to launch, though a date hasn’t been announced.

“I love the edgy, beach-chic voice of Pirette,” Ho said in a statement. “Now I get to be a part of creating beach essentials I’ve always wanted for myself.”

Pirette, launched in 2013, is a surf-inspired line featuring an alcohol-free fragrance oil and soy wax candle. The line’s signature scent takes a cue from coconut, surf wax and sunscreen.

Prices start at $24 for a travel tin soy candle to $48 for its fragrance oil. It’s carried online and in retail at shops such as retail chain Diane’s Beachwear and Faherty in Newport Beach.

Ho, a Hawaii native, hails from a family of professional surfers. Her father is legendary surfer Michael Ho, a two-time Hawaiian Triple Crown winner and 1982 Pipe Masters champ, and her uncle, Derek, won the 1993 world surfing championship and is a four-time Triple Crown winner. Her brother Mason is also a professional surfer.

Ho picked up her board when she was 7 and is now in her 10th season on tour with the World Surf League.

Every Body

Costa Mesa-based action sports brand Volcom launched a campaign to promote all-inclusive sizing, starting with its fall denim line, which is scheduled to launch at Nordstrom and on Volcom’s website in July.

The Volcom for Every Body campaign was shot at Thunder Studios in Long Beach. It’s meant to emphasize the collection, which offers an expanded size range, from petite to plus-size. It also features an exclusive song by band Deap Vally.

The face of the campaign is model Natalie Nootenboom, the first plus-size model to walk for designer Anna Sui at its spring/summer runway show in New York. Her uncle is DJ Steve Aoki.

Model Georgia May Jagger, who’s collaborated on Volcom’s Stone Row line, as well as skateboarder Rachelle Vinberg, modeled for the print, digital and video campaign.
