The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 1.6% to 1.74%.
The price of gold was up 1.1% to $1,223.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based Newport Corporation shares were up 51.3% to $22.76 and a market cap of $880 million on news that it would be sold in a $980 million all-cash deal.
Irvine-based Western Digital Corporation shares were down 6.9% to $42.94 and a market cap of $10 billion after China-based Unisplendor Corporation withdrew a $3.78 billion investment in the computer data storage maker.
