Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 declined 0.13% to 2,035.66 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1% to 17,626.56 and the Nasdaq rose 0.13% to 4,681.16.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was flat at 2.36%.

The price of gold rose 0.25% to $1,162.

TECHNOLOGY

Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. was up 2.4% to $42.10 and a market cap of $25 billion. Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock from “neutral” to “buy” and raised its price target from $40 to $48. Separately, the chipmaker said it will buy land at the Great Park Neighborhoods in Irvine to build a new office campus of 1.1 million to 2 million square feet.

RETAIL

Orange County apparel retailers were down or flat on sector weakness. All retailers in one comparable group were down today and three national retailers recently reported lower quarterly sales than expected.

Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. was down 2.9% to $2.02 and a market cap of $345.3 million. Irvine-based Tilly’s Inc. was down 2.2% to $7.13 and a market cap of $200.1 million. Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. was flat at $1.58 and a market cap of $109.4 million. Foothill Ranch-based Wet Seal Inc. was down 3.2% to 27 cents and a market cap of $23.1 million.
