The S&P 500 was up 0.43% to 1,996.90 at last check on midday trading Monday, a slight fallback after it briefly surpassed 2,000 for the first time.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.47% to 17,080.53, and the Nasdaq rose 0.3% to 4,552.35.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.3% to 2.40%.
The price of gold was flat at 1,277.40.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Allergan Inc. was down about 1% to $164.20 and a market cap of $49 billion. The company acknowledged that 31% of shareholders had asked for a special meeting on an attempted acquisition by Quebec-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., surpassing the 25% threshold for calling one.
RESTAURANTS
Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. is up another 3.7% to $31.70 and a market cap of $1.14 billion on continued strength from its announcement of 26-unit franchise deal in Texas on Friday and analyst projections. Analysts expect $16.2 million in 2014 net profit when El Pollo Loco reports earnings next month, versus its $16.9 million loss last year.
