The S&P 500 rose 0.53% to 1,941.82 in midday trading Monday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.32% to 16,606.33, and the Nasdaq rose 0.85 % to 4,408.21.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.12% to 2.42%.
The price of gold was down 0.11% to $1,309.60.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Allergan Inc. was down 2% to $153.65 and a market capitalization of $45.7 billion. A stock analyst at New York City-based Bernstein Research said Laval, Quebec-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. might be less interested in acquiring Allergan if Congress passes legislation to limit a company’s ability to avoid higher U.S. taxes on its properties here if foreign-owned. Valeant was down 1.7% to $107.32 and a market cap of $36 billion.
Newport Beach-based imaging and oncology center operator Alliance Healthcare Services Inc. rose 4.7% to $29.72 and a market cap of $317.2 million. It reported net income of $2.8 million in its second quarter compared to a loss of $13 million for the same period last year.
