Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 rose 0.30% to 1,955.88 in midday trading Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.22% to 16,855.40, while the Nasdaq was up 0.37% to 4,366.40.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond declined 1.59% to 2.55%.

The price of gold was up 0.05% to $1,322.

TECHNOLOGY

Irvine-based chipmaker Broadcom Corp. was up 1.53% to $37.24 and a market cap of $21.8 billion on a report the Chinese government might try to buy a part of its mobile phone business, which includes 3G, 4G and modem IP chips.

BANKING

Irvine-based Opus Bank rose 2.46% to $29.60 and a market cap of $683.2 million. It announced a national expansion of its healthcare banking on the heels of yesterday’s launch of a small business banking division.
