The S&P 500 rose 0.6% in midday trading to 3,390.72.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5% to 29,382.37.
The Nasdaq climbed 1% to 9,827.08.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond ticked 0.6% higher to 1.57%.
Gold was 0.4% higher to $1,611.
The price of a barrel of oil jumped 2.7% to $53.45.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) was up 3% to $236.35 and a $49 billion market cap. Shares have risen 10% this month, since the heart valve maker reported higher quarterly and annual net sales and earnings per share.
REAL ESTATE
TRI Pointe Group Inc. (NYSE: TPH), also in Irvine, rose 5.5% to $18.17 and a $2.5 billion market cap. The land developer and homebuilder yesterday reported higher fourth quarter new home orders rose 52% year over year and an increase in revenue and net income. TRI Pointe also said it will repurchase up to $200 million of common stock.
