Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. took naming rights of the Los Angeles Rams practice facility at the University of California-Irvine.
The facility, formerly known as Crawford Field, now is called Microsemi Field.
The one-year sponsorship is the company’s latest move to expand its presence and signage at sports venues, which have included Angel Stadium and The Honda Center, home to the Anaheim Ducks.
Microsemi confirmed the sponsorship but didn’t make further comment.
The company became OC’s largest local chipmaker after Avago Technologies Inc. in February acquired Broadcom Corp. in Irvine for $37 billion. The combined company, known as Broadcom Ltd., is based in Singapore and has its U.S. headquarters in San Jose.
The Rams will hold their annual summer training camp at UCI for the next three years.
The deal to bring them back to OC for summer drills will run until completion of their new stadium and training facilities in Inglewood, which is scheduled to open in 2019.
