Some late additions and longer-term considerations to go with this week’s Commercial Leasing Guide, a Special Report that starts on page 19 … Look for Kofax Ltd. to maintain its sizeable presence in Irvine in the wake of last week’s agreement on a $1 billion sale to Lexmark International Inc. Kofax Chief Executive Reynolds Bish told our Chris Casacchia that the business software maker got a green light from the Lexington, Ky.-based buyer to renew its lease with the Irvine Company at its 91,000-square-foot headquarters at Discovery Business Center for another five to six years … Broadcom Corp. took a step closer to its departure from the Irvine Co.’s University Research Park with a low-key groundbreaking last week on a 73-acre campus at FivePoint Communities’ Great Park Neighorhoods development. Broadcom is expected to stay in its current HQ until 2018 or so, giving the Irvine Co. plenty of time to fill or reconfigure the 1 million or so square feet the chipmaker leases there … County officials, meanwhile, also plan to be busy near the Great Park (see related story, right) … Reporter Paul Hughes recalls University Research Park’s roots in a front-page piece on the collaboration between Irvine Co.’s Donald Bren and former UCI Chancellor Jack Peltason, who died on March 21… Special thanks to Dick Sim, who took the time to weigh in with his unique perspective on Peltason last week. Sim’s remarks came as he prepared for an important trip back to his hometown of Phoenixville, Pa., where family members plan to wish his mother, Josephine, a happy 99th birthday … Julia Argyros is a leap-year baby, and she likes to have fun with the quadrennial curiosity of the calendar that saw her arrive in the world on Feb. 29. Her latest comedy bit came with a show of dismay when some of the kids at the Discovery Cube Orange County in Santa Ana guessed that she might be in her 40s. Try 18, she told them with feigned exasperation, giving a crowd of adults—which included Paul Folino, David Horowitz and Walkie Ray—a good laugh to go with the math quiz for the kids. They were all together for a groundbreaking on the Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater, which came with an announcement of an extra $500,000 on top the of $1.5 million the Argyros family has already donated … Busy week for Folino, who was inducted into the Toshiba Classic Hall of Fame a few days earlier … Our Mark Mueller brings word that the third time was the charm for New Home Co. COO Tom Redwitz’ pursuit of the San Juan Capistrano hillside land that now holds the luxe Oliva community. He couldn’t swing a deal for the 17 acres back when he was an exec at Taylor Woodrow in the 90s. He missed again a decade later when he led the luxury division of John Lang Homes. New Home Co. finally bought the land in 2013, marking a second big payday for former landowner Rick Scalzo, who reached a $6.35 million settlement with the city of San Juan Capistrano in 2010 over development restrictions placed on the family-owned land. Oliva, with 40 homes priced at $1.9 million and up, opened over the weekend … Aptly named: Christopher Money, partner in the Newport Beach office of forensic auditing firm HSNO, which just released a blistering report on the use of public funds at the Great Park.
