Irvine Firm Reports Spike In E-Commerce Traffic

Amazon’s two-day Prime Day blitz earlier this month may have offered a glimpse of what’s in store at retail in the lead up to the holiday selling period.

The heavy promotions caused other big boxes to set their own plays into motion the same week of Prime Day with separate sales from the likes of Target, Walmart and Best Buy, adding to what’s already been heavy promotions online across retail to help drive traffic during the pandemic.

Amazon said its third-party sellers saw sales of more than $3.5 billion on Prime Day, up nearly 60% from a year ago and surpassing Amazon’s own retail business performance during the promotional blitz.

Irvine research firm PriceSpider, which bills itself as a retail data technology firm, said e-commerce sales this year among the brands it works with are so far up 113% through the third quarter.

PriceSpider, part of Neuintel LLC of Irvine, sells brands technology products aimed at growing their online business, via a digital platform. The company said its platform is currently used by more than 1,700 brands, including Unilever, Sony, Fisher-Price and Energizer.

Health and beauty continues to be popular, notching a 173.5% increase in third-quarter sales, compared to a year earlier, according to the company’s data.

PriceSpider said the brands on its platforms saw sales up 122% in the third quarter, with web traffic up about 58% in that same quarterly period.

The company’s CEO and co-founder Anthony Ferry said the numbers are only expected to continue to rise through the rest of the year.
