Ambry Genetics Corp. cut 99 jobs at its facility in Irvine, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification it filed with the state Employment Development Department.
The company creates and conducts genetic tests for the medical industry at its 65,000-square-foot lab in Aliso Viejo, employing 800 workers, 500 of those in OC.
Last year it opened an office in Bethesda, Md., and in April 2015 it bought Progeny Software LLC in Delray, Fla., which makes software to manage and map genetic data.
Chief Executive Aaron Elliott was honored by the Business Journal last year with an Innovator of the Year award.
Ambry, founded in 1999 by President and Chairman Charles Dunlop, hired Los Angeles-based Intrepid Investment Bankers LLC earlier this year to evaluate offers to buy the company.
