Iconic car stunts got a special remake this month, thanks to Fountain Valley-based Genesis Motor America.
The automaker rolled out a three-part video series featuring its 2019 Genesis G70 recreating driving stunts from the films “The Fast and the Furious,” “Baby Driver,” and “Drive.” It also gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look into how the stunts were created.
The social media campaign, called “The Art of the Stunt,” was made by Huntington Beach-based agency of record Innocean USA and Los Angeles-based digital media firm Donut Media. The firms tapped Hollywood’s go-to stunt coordinator Robert Nagle, stunt driver Tanner Foust, and Gymkhana Films Director Ben Conrad for the spots.
“We wanted to tell a Genesis G70 performance story that our social community would love,” said Kelly Kliebe, Innocean USA’s vice president group creative director.
The first 30-second ad, based on a stunt from “The Fast and the Furious,” shows Foust reversing at top speed in downtown L.A., off West 4th Street and South Grand Avenue, before squeezing a G70 underneath a semi-tractor trailer. It’s accompanied by a 10-minute behind-the-scenes video.
In the second set, Foust pays tribute to the film “Baby Driver” by attempting a “180-reverse-to-drift” maneuver to avoid a truck as it backs up into the road.
The final spot recreates a scene from “Drive,” where the G70 is seen maneuvering between a truck and a wall.
It’s the first major marketing push from the luxury brand offshoot of Hyundai Motor America. Genesis has been retooling its dealer network and as it nears the completion of the transition it has “ramped up” marketing efforts, according to Genesis Senior Group Manager Megan Gillam in a statement to Marketing Daily.
