Alex Bhathal Joins Compass’ Board

Newport Beach entrepreneur Alex Bhathal has joined the board of directors of Compass Diversified (NYSE: CODI), the owner of 10 middle market businesses, including a couple notable firms in Orange County.

Bhathal is managing partner of family office RAJ Capital Management, co-owner of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings and co-founder of Revitate, a new investment platform that is focusing on sports, consumer products and real estate.

“With hands-on experience in sports and consumer products companies, Alex brings valuable insight to our CODI team and our subsidiaries as we seek to leverage our permanent capital advantage to acquire and build leading businesses,” Compass Chairman Sean Day said in a statement.

From 2006 through 2016, Bhathal served as the chief executive of Raj Swim, the locally based company founded by his parents and which designs, manufactures and markets designer and private label swimwear under nationally recognized brands. Bhathal is also an investment partner of Rx3 Growth Partners, a private equity fund that includes Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a partner.

Compass owns and manages 10 North American middle market businesses including Irvine-based apparel maker 5.11 Tactical, which is planning to go public this year, and Newport Beach based luxury jeweler Lugano Diamonds.

“The company is well-positioned for the long term, and I am excited to be a part of the board as CODI continues on its growth trajectory,” Bhathal said.

While Compass’ headquarters is technically in Connecticut, CEO Elias Sabo and COO Patrick Maciarriello operate out of an office in Costa Mesa. The company sports a $1.7 billion market cap.
