Alaska Airlines plans three daily nonstop flights between John Wayne Airport and San Jose starting June 5 “to connect business travelers between Southern California and Silicon Valley,” a spokesperson said.
Southwest Airlines flies nine times daily from the airport on that route and is currently the only airline offering such service from Orange County.
Alaska in October added service from John Wayne Airport to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, another route that competes with Southwest.
Alaska adds service from John Wayne to Santa Rosa, Calif., and Reno, Nev., next month.
The Seattle-based air carrier now averages 10 to 11 daily nonstop flights from JWA. It will average more than 15 after it adds the San Jose flights.
