Activision Blizzard, the parent company of Blizzard Entertainment in Irvine, is firing “dozens of people” across various departments, including employees who handled e-sports programming and other live events, Bloomberg News reported, quoting a person with knowledge of the matter.
The news agency said the cuts signal that Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI) plans a broader shift away from in-person events after a year of coronavirus lockdowns.
Separately, EsportsObserver.com said the layoffs at Activision Blizzard would total about 50.
Shares in Activision Blizzard closed up nearly 0.8% at $93.28 apiece for a market cap of $72.3 billion.
