A manufacturer in Irvine has won a nearly $97 million contract to supply weapon components to the U.S. Army.
Connectec Co. Inc. will manufacture components for 60-millimeter and 81-millimeter mortar weapons, as well as support equipment for those weapons and for 120-millimeter versions.
It beat five other bidders for the five-year project in a renewal for the company, which operates from a 16,000-square-foot headquarters on Reynolds Avenue.
Connectec was established in 1988 and employs about 80.
The company specializes in electrical and mechanical interconnection systems for aerospace, military, communications, medical and industrial applications. It handles custom orders on a variety of products utilizing steel, aluminum, titanium and other metals, but doesn’t handle design work.
Supplying mortar-related equipment and other components to the defense department became a core business line around 2000. “Our product line-up is really diverse,” said Laura Alvarez, the company’s contracts manager. “We’re happy to keep employees on for another five years.”
