Unemployment Down in December

Orange County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.2% in December, the state Employment Development Department said Friday.

The county’s unemployment rate was 3.7% in November and 3.6% in December 2004.

Total nonfarm payroll employment was up 1.3%, or by 18,700 jobs, from a year earlier.

The professional and business services sector gained the most local jobs since last year, with 8,700 workers.

The information sector, which includes technology and telecommunications, lost 800 workers.

California’s unemployment rate was 4.8% in December, down from 6% a year ago.
