The University of California, Irvine, raised $72 million in the second half of 2005, beating its total raised for the entire year earlier.
The school saw 14,700 gifts during the six months ended Dec. 31, Thomas Mitchell, UC Irvine’s vice chancellor of university advancement, said Tuesday in an e-mail to business supporters.
The prior year, UCI received 6,000 donations, he said.
The school’s endowment now stands at $169 million, up 44% from three years ago, Mitchell said.
Last March, UCI landed its biggest gift,$30 million from Hot Pockets inventor Paul Merage. The business school now is named for Merage.
