TeleCore, a DSL-installation company founded in 1991, has burst its seams and will move this week into new, larger headquarters at UC Irvine’s 185-acre Research Park.
The new 30,000-square-foot office will house 125 people, who will move over from TeleCore’s Newport Beach office. The firm will continue to maintain the 10,000-square-foot Commerce Plaza office, which it will use mainly for purchasing and receiving.
TeleCore’s officials cited UCI’s talent pool and potential synergy with other tenants as significant reasons for locating in the Research Park. Employees will also be able to take advantage of on-campus classes. Other benefits are the Research Park’s modern facilities, central location and proximity to John Wayne Airport, they said.
TeleCore has contracts with telecommunications companies such as Covad, Northpoint, Cisco, Lucent and Copper Mountain. TeleCore specializes in deploying business DSL lines,high-speed connections that are used to enhance Internet communications over copper phone lines.
The new office is designed in a golf motif,TeleCore’s President and CEO John Clarey is an avid golfer. The rug resembles a course and the conference rooms will be named after famous golf courses. The cafeteria will be called The Clubhouse and the lounge, for foosball matches, will be called The 19th Hole.
TeleCore employs approximately 410 company-wide and has offices in the Bay Area, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, New York and Atlanta. Within a month, TeleCore expects to finalize $15 million in second-round financing and intends to file for an IPO in the latter part of this year.
TeleCore joins about 15 other Research Park tenants, including Cisco, AOL, Alta Vista, Canon Information Systems and Paragon Biomedical.
The University Research Park land is owned by the university and leased to the Irvine Co. for development, with the potential to generate $80 million in lease revenue for UCI programs over the next 25 years.n
