Organic Food
Survey results compiled by Young & Rubicam’s Brand Futures Group from various sources
Organic foods are moving into the mainstream, partly driven by fear of bioengineered food. Seventy percent of Americans would like to see more extensive labeling of genetically modified organisms (bioengineered food products), while 40% want more government regulation of agricultural biotechnology. Over 30% of organic products in the U.S. are now sold through general supermarkets rather than specialty stores, and 73% of all supermarkets carry some organic and natural food. Two-thirds of U.S. consumers who say they want to buy food thought to improve health were over age 45.
