An election to fill John Campbell’s former state senate seat will be held June 6, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Thursday.
The primary will be April 11.
Look for a potentially contentious election fight on the Republican side. Earlier this month, Campbell won the congressional seat vacated by Christopher Cox, who was appointed Securities and Exchange Commission chairman in August.
So far, Assemblyman Tom Harman, R-Huntington Beach, and Dana Point Councilwoman Diane Harkey plan to run for the seat.
Conservatives are likely to back Harkey against the more moderate and well-known Harman.
Harman is better funded. But Harkey has picked up some key endorsements, including from Campbell.
