Terry Bess was promoted from senior vice president and manager of Silicon Valley Bank’s Los Angeles and Santa Barbara offices to executive vice president and manager of the bank’s Southern California Division. He also was named to the bank’s managing committee.
The Huntington Beach resident will oversee Silicon Valley’s offices in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Irvine and San Diego from the Irvine office and work to grow the bank’s portfolio throughout the area.
Bess replaces Tim Waterson, who moved to a similar position with the bank’s products and services administration division.
Bess said he wants to make certain the division’s resources are “appropriately placed” to service the bank’s core customer: early-stage technology companies.
“Our primary objective is to service the early-stage technology community and help it grow,” Bess said.
A specialist in technology-company lending since the 1980s, Bess joined Silicon Valley Bank in 1993. Before that, he spent time at Security Pacific National Bank, Sanwa Bank California and Imperial Bank. He has a bachelor’s degree in management from Pepperdine.
Bess, who last week said he was a “rained-out golfer,” is married and has two college-age sons.
