ServiceCraft Opens Pennsylvania Center

ServiceCraft Opens Pennsylvania Center

By CHRIS CZIBORR

Buena Park transport logistics company ServiceCraft LLC has opened a 300,000-square foot support center in Allentown, Pa., as part of a bid to regionalize operations across the U.S.

“The Allentown facility represents the next step in a geographic expansion plan that envisions operating 1 million square feet in the Northeast as well as two additional facilities in Midwest and Southeast U.S. cities,” said Jeff Miller, ServiceCraft’s chief executive.

The company, which provides transportation and warehousing services for retailers and grocery chains, has 2.5 million square feet of space in Orange County. It has another 4 million square feet spread throughout its other facilities in Chino, Modesto and Carrollton, Texas. The company plans to add space in Atlanta and Chicago this year.

The Allentown center employs about 100 people. The company has no plans to expand its OC facilities or add to its staff roster of 600 people here.

“The current footprint we’re in is enough for what we’re doing right now,” said Jim Rodriguez, ServiceCraft’s vice president of strategic business development

Apart from Allentown and OC, the company employs a few hundred people at its three other facilities.

Last year, ServiceCraft counted revenue of $110 million, according to Rodriguez. This year, the company is forecasting 15% sales growth to about $125 million, he said.

ServiceCraft is benefiting from a move by retailers to shed distribution to focus on their stores, according to Rodriguez.

“In today’s world, more companies are looking to reduce costs and improve service,” he said. “They want to outsource to somebody who has supply chain logistics as their core competency.”

ServiceCraft’s customers include PepsiCo Inc. and Georgia-Pacific Corp. Most of the company’s competition comes from Columbus, Ohio-based Exel, part of Britain’s Exel PLC.

ServiceCraft itself is a unit of May Logistics Services Inc., a Chicago-based holding company owned by private equity group Code Hennessy & Simmons LLC.
