SenoRx Inc. of Aliso Viejo said Friday that A. Thomas Bender, a veteran Orange County medical device executive, is a new member of its board.
Bender is chairman of Cooper Cos., a maker of contact lenses and women’s surgical equipment that moved last year from Lake Forest to Pleasanton.
Bender served as Cooper’s chief executive for 13 years, retiring from that post last October. Bender also worked for Irvine-based Allergan Inc. from 1966 to 1991 in various jobs.
Appointing Bender is a continuation of SenoRx’s effort to add outside directors “with strong track records of building companies and creating shareholder value,” said Lloyd Malchow, SenoRx’s chief executive, in a release.
SenoRx makes devices that diagnose and treat breast cancer, including the EnCor vacuum-assisted breast biopsy system and the Contura catheter to deliver radiation.
