Santa Ana Federal Building Pegged for Closure Under GSA-Cost Cutting Plan

General Services Administration IDs 443 “Non-Core” Buildings for Disposal

UPDATE: The GSA’s list of 443 non-core federal buildings targeted for sale was taken down on March 5, one day after it was published on the agency’s website. The page now says its list of non-core properties to be targeted for sale would be “coming soon.” Orange County Business Journal will continue to track the situation and update this story as needed.

The Santa Ana Federal Building was listed by the General Services Administration as a “non-core” property U.S. officials could dispose of as part of a plan to cut millions of dollars from the federal government.

The nine-floor federal building at 34 Civic Center Plaza in downtown Santa Ana was the only government property in Orange County to be identified on the list of non-core properties designated for disposal. Built in 1975, building’s current tenants include the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Santa Ana’s federal building, located near the Ronald Reagan Federal Building, would be Orange County’s second federal property available for purchase within the past 12 months. The GSA sold the Ziggurat Federal Building in Laguna Niguel for $177 million late last year to a development group spearheaded by Pintar Investment Co. and Hilco Development Services.
