Samueli Not on Thin Ice with NHL; Magic in OC

He may be in the league’s penalty box, but the NHL still loves Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli. Samueli is on indefinite league suspension pending sentencing for misleading investigators in Broadcom’s options case. But at a preview party for the Discovery Science Center’s Science of Hockey exhibit, Samueli and wife Susan hung out with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who greeted the couple warmly and lauded them. The exhibit is funded by the Samueli Foundation, the Ducks, the NHL and USA Hockey. The event affirmed thinking that Samueli’s suspension is a technicality necessitated by the more severe case of Adelphia’s John Rigas and his former ownership of the Buffalo Sabres, and that Samueli’s suspension could be lifted once the court case is decided …

Corona del Mar neighbor Michael Capaldi is a corporate lawyer, Lincoln Club director and political commentator. Now Mainero’s son Anthony and Capaldi’s son Ben-described by both dads as being to their political right-are executive editor and executive publisher, respectively, of The Opinion. It’s a self-funded magazine that the teenagers get professionally printed and distribute at Sage Hill High School, where they’re juniors. The fourth issue is out; advertisers include Fletcher Jones Motor Cars and Wells Fargo. Anthony says he started the magazine, which prints a range of views, after being told he was too conservative to become opinion editor of the school-sponsored newspaper, The Bolt …
