Rumor Has Marriott Project in Play; Tucker Off Board

Tom Tucker, a plaintiff in the controversial securities-fraud suit against Broadcom and its philanthropic founders, is stepping off the board of the OC Performing Arts Center. Tucker and outgoing OCPAC chairman Roger Kirwan insisted the Broadcom flap wasn’t a factor; Tucker said 12 years is long enough to serve on a non-profit and that he’ll continue to give to the center. But Tucker said it was “very unfortunate” that the flap cost co-plaintiff Tom Tierney his turn as OCPAC chairman. Yet Tucker called incoming chairman Paul Folino a “good friend” who he thinks will do “a great job.” Tucker declined to specify how much he lost on Broadcom: “The numbers were large enough for all of us that you’ll notice no one backed out of the suit despite whatever pressures there were.” And Tucker said the plaintiffs remain confident about their case even though it has been moved from state to federal court, widely viewed as a setback for them

The good news: OC moves up two notches this year to 10th place out of 200 locales (Oakland is eighth). San Diego places first as California claims six of the top 10 spots (seven, if you count suburb Las Vegas). Worst place? Gary, Ind.
