What costs $20 million, weighs 30 tons and is 36 feet tall?
Each of the robotic dinosaurs making their Southern California debut in Orange County.
You can get a little taste of pre-history when “Walking with Dinosaurs: The Live Experience” plays at Honda Center in Anaheim from Wednesday to Sunday.
The show, a spinoff of the BBC series that started in 1999, features 15 realistic-looking dinosaurs that put Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” creations to shame.
It took a small army of people six years to render the computer animated figures from the TV series as lifelike as possible.
Each dino is operated by three “puppeteers” in a control room. Some work the tails, eyes and jaws of the beasts. Others control the legs and arms.
The live-action version is family friendly: Imagine giant, robotic dinosaurs with personality to spare. Throw in simulated earthquakes, volcano eruptions and other meteorological disasters for some drama. It’s set to be a fun romp over 165 million years of history.
“Walking with Dinosaurs” is touring some 100 arenas in two years. If you can’t get to the local showings, it’s set to hit the Staples Center in Los Angeles Sept. 25 to 28.
