Israel’s Retalix Ltd. is buying Irvine-based TCI Solutions Inc., a maker of software and systems for grocery chains, for $34 million in cash and stock.
Privately held TCI had $22 million in sales last year and a net loss of $2.9 million. Customers include Florida’s Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. and Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. of Kansas City, Kan.
Retalix, based in Ra’anana north of Tel Aviv, sells software for convenience stores, fast-food restaurants, gas stations and supermarkets. It counts yearly sales of about $180 million. The company, whose shares trade on Nasdaq, had a recent market value of $400 million.
Being part of Retalix could help TCI in its bid to go after the industry’s big names, including Kroger Co. and Albertson’s Inc.
Rivals include Minneapolis-based Retek Inc. and Scottsdale-based JDA Software Corp.
