Report: New Blizzard Game in Works

Irvine’s Blizzard Entertainment Inc., the top maker of online video games played by millions around the world, has a new title in the works.

The company, part of Santa Monica-based Activision Blizzard Inc., itself a unit of France’s Vivendi SA, is looking to hire software engineers for a new, unannounced game, according to British industry Web site TotalVideoGames.com.

The article cited a Blizzard representative’s comments on a fan site that the company is hiring for a “a brand-new game that has not been mentioned before.”

Blizzard’s biggest game is “World of Warcraft,” which has more than 11 million subscribers worldwide. The latest installment of the game, “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King,” came out in November and sold 4 million copies in its first month.

The company’s other games include “Starcraft,” “Diablo” and “Battle.net.”

Players buy software for Blizzard’s fantasy, role-playing games and then pay monthly subscriptions of about $15 to play with others online.
