Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. has formed a venture with Moscow’s Sprandi International Ltd. to sell its surf-inspired Quiksilver and Roxy clothes in Russia.
Sprandi and Quiksilver plan to start a chain of stores and a distribution operation serving Russia. Sprandi previously sold Quiksilver clothes in Russia under a licensing deal.
“Russia’s young people are increasingly linked to the global youth culture,” said Bernard Mariette, Quiksilver’s president.
Quiksilver is set to own a majority of the venture. The company hopes to use the Russian operation to expand across Eastern Europe.
“We believe that a strong business in Russia will serve as a model and, potentially, as an operating platform to grow our business in a variety of other attractive markets throughout Eastern Europe.”
