Tecstar Automotive Group, a unit of Irvine-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc., acquired a limousine builder for $600,000.
Tecstar bought a 51% stake in Empire Coach Enterprises LLC, which is set to be based in East Brunswick, N.J.
Empire Coach modifies vehicles, such as the Lincoln Town Car, into limousines.
Michael Misseri, who is set to act as Empire Coach’s chief operating officer, will own the remaining 49%.
Quantum chief executive Alan P. Niedzwiecki in a release said that “the limousine market is growing and, as a result, we believe the addition of Empire Coach Enterprises will result in increased revenues for the company by enhancing our existing second stage manufacturing capabilities and capturing new alternative fuel vehicle opportunities.”
Quantum and Tecstar make alternative fuel systems using natural gas, propane and hydrogen.
