Companies considering a move or expansion outside California because of the state’s high electricity costs can qualify for a discount passed earlier this month by the state Public Utilities Commission.
The program, proposed by Southern California Edison, offers a five-year discount for companies that qualify. The discount is 25% in the first year, 20% in the second, 15% in the third, 10% in the fourth and 5% in the fifth.
Companies have to qualify for the discount, showing they have viable alternatives to operating in California. The program targets manufacturers and other heavy energy users.
